Rudranath is a hilly terrain situated in the Chamoli district near Gopeswar in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand. Malayalees are more familiar with the two other pilgrimage sites, Kedaranath and Thunganath. Rudranath is a beautiful remote area in Uttarakhand.  To reach here from Kerala, one can reach either Haridwar or Rishikesh via Delhi. From these places, there are buses that ply to Chamoli early morning at 4am. Get into one of these buses and u might reach the base camp by 3pm. From here you can ride a bus or a jeep that will take you to Gopeswar. From Gopeswar, you must reach the Sagar village which is the base camp for trekking to Rudranath. Sagar lies 230km away from Rishikesh and 5km away from Gopeswar.
Sagar is an agriculture village. The life of the villagers has much improved these days both financially and educationally. Gopeswar can be called a mini Himalayan city. It has many schools and colleges for the students living in Chamoli. The main crops grown here are basmati rice, paddy, Mandal which is a crop used to prepare bread, orange, potatoes and so on.
Prepare a light luggage for the trekking nut remember to carry all essential items. Since the oxygen content is low as you climb up the hill, it would be safe to carry an oxygen cylinder with you. A raincoat is a must since it rains a lot here. The trekking is difficult. The path is narrow with only 3feet width and it usually starts raining after noon. The weather is cold and extremely foggy and this makes it difficult to see around. So it is always safer to begin the trekking early morning by 6am.
The first 2km trekking is easier since the path is paved with cement. There are farms on both sides of the path. This is the first resting place. The next 4km trek is through forest area and soon you will reach a breath-takingly beautiful meadow with lovely brooks and lush green plants everywhere. The Rudranath trekking will be an un forgettable experience in your life.
