Spread over 178 acres of land, the Delhi Zoo which is now renamed as National Zoological Park is one of the main attractions in Delhi. usually in a regular zoo, we find animals confined within iron cages. But the Delhi zoo has created artificial habitat for the different species of animals. The animals are let out in an open space controlled by fences and trenches. Only very few animals can be seen enclosed in iron cages unlike other zoos. We can enjoy watching animals in their natural habitat. These kinds of parks are also called safari parks. This zoo was set up in 1959. There are around 1350 animals belonging to more than 130 different species from India and all over the world. They include chimpanzee, hippopotamus, spider monkey, deer giraffes, elephant, lion, Zebras, African wild buffalo, zebra and many other types of animals. There are also different types of birds and reptiles here. A pass is required to enter the zoo. The Delhi Zoo is so big that even a one-day trip is not enough to see the animals here.
