The Chithra pournami Day of this year falls on May 10th.  The Mangaladevi Temple festival will be observed on the same day. The pilgrims are allowed entry to the temple only once a year on the Chithra pournami day.  This temple is situated on top of a mountain on the Kerala and Tamil Nadu border inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve. There are jeep trips from Kumili to the temple. Those who wish to visit the temple in private vehicles should get a pass from the forest department. Only four-wheel vehicles are allowed inside the forest.  Since it is a plastic-free area, the authorities have banned the use of plastic bottles. Last year they had allowed to carry five liter’s water bottles though.
