Dal is one of the most important lakes in India. This is also the official summer home of the Jammu-Kashmir administration. Dal lake is linked with many other lakes in the Kashmir valley. The boats used here were built in the style used during the British era. Dal lake spreads across 18 square kilometers. During winter, the whole lake is frozen and covered with snow. Every human being must visit Kashmir at least once in his life time. House boats are available for stay in the Dal lake. The boats or canopy is known as the shikara. It would take almost 6 hours to cover the whole lake, riding in the shikara. The lake remains frozen during December to February. So, there will not be shikara safari.
