Sairandrivanam is a land of exceptional beauty which remained untouched for hundreds of years. Situated in the Nilgiri plateau, Sairandrivanam or better known as silent Valley is an abode of thousands of flora and fauna which have been existing here for more than thousands of years. It is also the home of certain species of the bygone era. This is the core of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve due to the presence of rich biodiversity here. UNESCO has declared it as a world Heritage Site as it has many rare and endangered species of flora and fauna.
Silent Valley lies 22km into the restricted forest path near Mukkali which is just 18km away from Mannarkkad in Palakkad district. Since this is an extremely important bio reserve region, it is not possible to visit here like most of the other tourist places. One has to get prior permission from the forest department to enter the silent Valley. Interested person can get the permit from the Forest office in Mukkali. There are eco-tourism activities conducted under the guidance of the forest department here. They also provide accommodation for the tourists.
