Lying in the northeastern state of Manipur, this lake is a very popular tourist destination. This beautiful lake is situated in Bishnupur district, at a distance of 53 km from Imphal, the capital of Manipur. So, it is practically easy to reach here either by bus transport or taxis. Loktak lake is the world’s only floating lake. It has circular floating swamps which look like tiny islands. The locals here catch fish from these swamps to earn their livelihood. These tiny islands are called phumdis in the local language. Sometimes artificial swamps are built for fish farming. A tour to the region is incomplete without a trip to Sandra island here.
