Hornbill festival is held in the first week of December every year. This festival is the most important annual festival of Nagaland, that attracts tourists from all over the world. This festival is conducted by the ministry of tourism and culture at the Naga heritage village, Kisama which is about 12km away from Kohima. The aim of this festival is to understand the life and history of the many Naga tribes and to showcase their rich heritage to the world. This festival lasts for a week in which, tribes from all over Nagaland showcase their culture and traditions. The festival is named after the hornbill as a tribute to the bird found in the Nagaland jungles. The tribal use feathers of hornbills in the headgear while dancing. As a part of the ongoing festival, they conduct a variety of traditional songs, dances and indigenous games and sports like Naga wrestling and archery competitions parade, traditional food festivals and religious events during the one week long festival. Many beautiful stalls for the local arts and crafts, food, flowers and herbal medicines are set up to display Naga products. The visitors get a chance to buy traditional products like Naga pictures, sculptures made of wood related to Naga life and beautiful Naga shawls. Another important attraction here are the songs sung in praise of Naga warriors.
