It's one of the few places that's there is UNESCOs heritage list. Situated in Kanyakumari district in Trivandrum. On the Trivandrum - Kanyakumari road, from Thakkala it's almost 2 km towards east side. Eravipilla Eravivarma Kulashekara Perumal who reigned in Tiruvathamkur during AD 1592 to 1609 built it, the construction started in AD 1601. It's replica of Kerala's own vasthu architecture. It built in 6 acre Palace land. Tamil Nadu's Valli river flows Adjacent to it. Kerala governments archeology department takes care of the palace. In 1741, after the Kulachil war, Marthadavarma Maharaja renovated the palace to its current structure. All those who wish to visit Pathmambhava Palace can start the journey at 7am from Trivandrum. As far as possible, by 8am leave Balaramapuram. After 8am, there is heavy traffic block at Balaramapuram. From Trivandrum to Pathmanabhapuram it's 62 kilometres. From Thakkala, go forward for almost 2 kilometres. If the journey begins by around 7-7.30am, before 9am Pathnambhapuram Palace will be reached. At Thakkala sign boards are displayed. Palace visiting time is between 9am to 5pm. On Mondays visitation is not permitted. Almost 5000 people visit this place every day. Entry fee is Rs.25. There is separate fee for camera. There are locker facilities to safely keep our goods. Food items including plastic items are not permitted inside. Palace was a prime location for many good films. The first memory that comes in mind is the Manichithrathazhe film song, "Oru Murai Vanthu" scenes. It would take almost 2 hours to quickly see the Palace and it would take almost 5 hours to view the Palace in detail.
