Pahalgam is a hill station 2130m above sea-level in mu and Kashmir. This beautiful town lies 96km away from Srinagar and it takes 2 hours to reach here. This is one of the hill stations were visitors are allowed throughout the year. You can book a Tat Sumo or avail JKRTC/ordinary buses from the tourist reception centre. The journey to Pahalgam passes through many stunning locations in Kashmir.
Pampur – This is a beautiful town just 16km away from Srinagar, famous for its saffron flower cultivation. The saffron produced here is that of world class quality and hence is also known as ‘Saffron Town of Kashmir’.
Avanthipur – This place is 29km away from Srinagar. Avanthipur Temple is a famous pilgrim spot. This temple which was built in 655-833 AD by King Avanthi Varmana is a classic example of Hindu Architecture.
 Sun Temple at Martand – This is another famous Sun temple on the way to Pahalgam. It is situated just 2 miles away from Anantnag.
Gurudwara Guru Nanak Devji- This sacred shrine of Guru Nanak is located 61km away from Srinagar. This is one of the prominent religious sites in Kashmir.
There are two classes of buses that travel to Pahalgam from Srinagar – Deluz buses and the lower-class buses. The tickets are comparatively low and are nonstop buses that ply directly to Pahalgam. Private buses are also available. You can book from KMDA, Pantha Chowk, Srinagar Bypass. Though renting a tata Sumo or other taxi may be costly, they are more comfortable to travel.
There are many interesting spots in Pahalagam which may take 3-4 days to vivist and enjoy. Chandanwari is one of them. A 16km ride from Pahalgam will take you to this spectacular spot 9500feet above sea-level. This is a stunning picnic spot with astounding scenic views everywhere. This is also the first stage for the Amarnath Yatra.
 Sheshnag Lake lies 26km away from Pahalgam and 1km away from Chandanwari. This exotic lake with its bluish clear water is a breath-taking sight. It is a holy lake for the pilgrims going to Amarnath Yatra. It is impossible to use vehicles to reach here. So, horses or ponies can be used to travel to this beautiful place. The journey through the path in the pine forests is an unforgettable experience.
