India Gate is one of the prominent war memorials in India. Earlier known as the ‘All India War Memorial’, it was built in memory of Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the first world war. The India Gate is 42 metres tall. Many important roads lead from the India Gate. It has beautiful well maintained gardens next to it. Every evening many Delhiites can be seen spending their leisure time here. The India Gate looks stunning in the evening when it is illuminated with electric light. Amar Jawan Jyoti is an eternal flame under the arch of India Gate. This flame honours every unknown Indian soldier who laid their lives in service of our motherland. It is a marble cenotaph, consisting of a rifle and a soldier’s helmet. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
