Keibul Lam Jao National Park is the only floating park in the world. This is a habitat of many species of birds and animals. Located at Bishnupur. Near Tanga town, this magnificent park is a part of the Loktak lake. The main attraction of the national park is the presence of the sangai deer (also known as eldi deer / brow antlered deer). Sangai deer are rare and endangered species. These deer, also known as ‘dancing deer’ can be credited with making Bishnupur and Manipur, famous. Keibul Lam Jao National Park has breath-taking scenery around. Earlier this was just a wild life sanctuary but in 1977, the government declared Keibul Lam Jao as a National Park to protect these deer. The Islands here are formed by mats of dense aquatic grass gives it an appearance of floating on the lake. These swamps are known as ‘phumdi’. Tourists coming to Imphal which lies just 53 km away, can visit this amazing park too. The ideal time to visit Keibul Lam Jao National Park is between October – February.
