Gir is situated in the land of industries, Gujarat. Ahmedabad, the richest city in India, is 360km away from Gir and takes more than 7 hours to reach here.  Visitors from other places can fly down to the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Airport and hire a taxi. If coming by train, get down at Kalupur Railway station which is in Ahmedabad and hire a taxi to Gir.  The entry fee for Indian citizen is Rs.75 while a foreigner has to pay Rs.100. Those who wish to carry a camera will have to pay an extra 100 rupees. Guide fee is Rs.50. You can also avail a jeep safari for Rs.4990 and have a ride through the forest for 4 hours. Those who visit Gir, should never miss the safari. 6 persons and a child up to 12 years can travel in a single jeep. Iion trail, open jeep safari, trekking and camping can be done. Gir forest was declared a national park on 18th September ,1965 to save and preserve the Asiatic lions found here. Other than lions, wild elephants, boars, peacocks, deer and many other varieties of birds and animals are found in Gir forest. The highlight of the National park, is a two days-one night camp. The fee is Rs.7610 which includes breakfast, lunch and stay in a luxurious A/C tent.
