This fort built by the Nayaka Kingdom, lies on the Pondichery -Krishnagiri national highway. Believed to be built in the 13th century, this fort complex is different from the usual forts because unlike others, it was built on a hill tops. There are two forts here, the Raja fort and the Rani fort. The Raja fort with its 800 steps is more magnificent compared to the other. These forts remind us of a glorious past of the Nayaka dynasty. The ruins and relics include a sacred pond called ‘Aanakulam’, a temple, ‘Kalyana Mahal and so on. People who love trekking should try this place. Climbing those 800 steps will make you realize the importance of water. This fort complex acquaints us with the hard work that went behind building the different stupas in the 13th century. Those who plan to visit this awesome place, can take the Pondichery University- Gingee route via Trivandrum
