Jahra lies a few kilometers away from the busy city of Kuwait. The Jahra reserve pool is an incredible wetland full of tiny streams with thorny bushes and grass, fresh water lakes and canals which flow out the treated water from sewage plants into the sea. All these make Jahra a fascinating spot. Fully man-made, this place has become the favorite spot of migratory birds and animals. The Kuwait government is also planning to expand this area for another 20-square kilometer. Since it is a restricted area, it is not easy to get into the reserve. A special permit from the government is needed to visit here. There has been news on television and newspapers that they are planning to open it for the common people yet this may not happen any sooner. This reserve is a paradise for bird watchers and students of Ornithology. The migratory birds have a pattern of travelling which is invisible for human eyes. The Jahra reserve is a turning point in the path of the journey of migratory birds. The data says, around 240 species of birds have visited here to take rest before continuing their flight. Other than these birds you can find Arabian red fox and desert lizards here.
